What can you say about a man who said so much, lived so hard, and let it all go time and time again. Some of my first memories in my life were of George Jones singing to me. I dig alot of Don Williams, Conway Twitty, Waylon and Willie, Hank, Roy Acuff, Bob Wills, and too many more to go on about. But there was always something special about George. The voice may be the best one to ever sing a song about women, drinking, and the sorrow they can bring. You could hear it in every word he sang, he'd been there and back and he was here to warn you about it. Thanks George. We're all a bunch of lightweights after you.
89.3 THE CURRENT | LOCAL SHOW
The only time Mickey's Diner ever closed was for Tom Waits. It was 1975... back when record companies threw good parties, you could smoke anywhere you pleased, and cars were made out of metal. Some say times have changed for the better, some say otherwise. It's not up to me to decide. All I know is the future of (public) radio is in good hands.
Right around the corner from Mickey's, down St. Paul way, there's a big building full of hard working, music loving, news makin, hand shakin, fund raising, soft spoken spirits of radio land. They were kind enough to open there doors to me and the band. We played a few songs from the EP and talked about how Middle West came to be.
So put on a pot of coffee and listen here. They're open all night.
